Article Draft Camo
London born Cameron Gillmartin is the face behind the production of Camo and now regarded as one of the newest and freshest producers and Dj’s of his generation. He has made a name for himself in the dubstep scene as a producer with releases such ‘Bring it Alive’ and ‘Kryptic Criminal’. Camo has played at many gigs across the UK and Europe with some big mainstream artists. Camo has not just stuck to one genre over the years; He has experimented with house, Drum and Bass and Grime with many of his material getting released in the coming year. Collaboration with Pamela was inevitable as their chemistry have been so strong over the past few years as friends.
Thing have been great, the past few months have been incredible, meeting all these new and creative minds in the industry and it has opened my eyes. I have realised so much about this industry and how exclusive it really is. I learnt that in this industry we have to work extremely hard just to be recognised by others and that it is quite hard to appeal to everyone and meet their wants. Making it big was the last thing on my mind but it sort of just happened, I made a few decent tracks here a couple of meeting and countless amounts of hours in the studio and now I am headlining BESTIVAL with Pamela!
It started of trying to perfect one of the tracks after Kryptic Criminal as it wasn’t getting as much response from the crowds and I knew it wasn’t the best it couple be.I was getting less gigs, I was even loosing followers on twitter! I ended up having a creative mind block so I wasn’t able to think clearly and I had absolutely no motivation to perfect something that wasn’t right. I took a couple weeks off just to clear my mind so I was going to lots of raves, gigs and festivals just to enjoy myself. When I was at the events I found myself being inspired by other artists such as Kbeatz!, Meness and Dream. They were so into their music and you could tell by their faces that they put everything into what they produced. Their beats were so full in bass, they had a million different progressive sounds and it sounded amazing. I also bumped into Pamela and we used to be really good friends back in collage and I knew she had started a singing career in the same industry, she asked how I was doing and I confessed to her how I had lost motivation and felt lost. As usual she helped me back on my feet and came to the studio with me a couple days later and from there, I was back on track.
Having Pamela there was great I used to always be so serious and beat myself up when things didn’t go right, she told me that things are meant to go wrong to improve, she was right. From there we spent all our time in the studio making new tracks, adding her vocals in and occasionally another producer would join us and we would share tips and help each other progress. About a month flew by and there we had it, a EP of tracks, of course we uploaded them to preview on sound cloud and sent them to different radios such as Rinse FM, Choice FM, Kiss 100, BBC 1Xtra and more. A week later all other producers are contacting us to collaborate, my manager was receiving lots of emails about performances and gigs, it was a start of something new without sounding like a complete mug.
I feel like all the hard work over the months have really boosted my confidence, and showed that in the industry with a ridiculous amount of work you will end up being rewarded for it generously. PRANKSTAARS is such a huge deal, when we received the email about being nominated my dreams came true. My advice to all you DUBBASS-ers out there producing, Dj’ing, or whatever you want to do or become, have faith in yourself,. You were made to shine, don’t think twice about uploading your work onto sites and you could be in for a surprise. If your ever feeling unmotivational or feel to give up, someone will pick you up and put you back on your feet I assure you, If not I will give you my pet dog.
This is my draft for my second double page spread. Instead of doing a typical 'interview' based article I decided to use a more intimate method. I wrote the article as the artist and it is the 'artist himself' that wrote it. This makes the audience feel more involved and feel like they are having a conversation. Also I thought I would show the hard sides of the industry and the downfalls of the artist so the reader can relate to him and see that he is just like a normal person.
