Working Diary

25.14th March
I am finally putting all the final peices of my evaulations together, it has been very challenging and trying to meet deadlines and ensuring everything is of high quality is stressful, however I felt I have maintained a good work ethic and have succeeded in my tasks. I still have some final parts to put together after overcoming my difficulty in using adobe premier and not being familiar with the programme. Also I have found transfering work between school hours and work at home is quite challenging as I have to ensure all the files are on the same disks and making sure I have all the correct programmes to forfill my tasks.

24.25th February
For the last couple of weeks I will be correcting all mistakes on my coursework and ensuring everything is up to date and of a high quality. I will also be putting my evaluative questions into different forms of media to make it more interesting.

23.7th February
I have finally completed all aspects of my coursework and now doing my evaluation. I am very happy with the final products as I feel they are unique, well suited to my target audience and up to a professional standard. Also I am just finishing the presentations on Prezi on all my feedbacks I have received and the actions I have taken to improve them.

22.1st February
I have completed all parts of my coursework now and just finishing the small detail on my media product. I am now completing the evaluation and I am finding it quite easy to write as my research and detailed analysis' go hand in hand with my evaluation. For example in question four of my evaluation I found this part very easy as I had previously written a detailed analysis of my audience in my audience profile, this meant that I was able to copy the analysis and just change it around.

I have reached a dilemma on what image to use on one of my double page spreads, I have posted it to show which images I am stuck between. Also doing this I have realised that I have lots of spelling mistakes throughout my whole blog, from this over the weekend I am making it a task to go through every single piece of work I have posted and make sure it is spelled correctly. Also I am starting to delete and re-post work because I feel it is still unorganised and needs the correct labels and titles in each.

20.16th of January
I decided to post my initial first part of my evaluation as I think it will take a long time for me to finish editing and rewriting the final one and I felt I need to post the first one up to clarify that I had done it to prevent me from losing more marks. I feel that my blog is very easy to navigate and somewhat messy so tonight I will try and change my blog around and reformat some things to make it more users friendly. :)

19.16th of January
This week I have been focussing on catching up all the work that could have been over Christmas and I had made a plan to ensure I did not fall behind, I feel I am following the planning well and have now completed my initial feedback, two front covers, contents page and all three double page spreads. I am just putting the final parts together and I will be posting them to the blog. I have also completed all the miser en scenes for all my photo shoots and got all the permission to use images from high frequency. I feel that I am on task and now I can focus primarily on my evaluation. I have completed the first question of my evaluation and feel that it can be improved, so I have not posted it yet, which is a risk as it means I have not handed it in on the due date so I may lose marks on my planning. However I feel the improving of my evaluation will make up for my loss marks.

Unfortunately during the Christmas holidays I got very ill and had to have an operation. This meant that I spent most of my Christmas recovering and I was not able to complete all the work I wanted to do over the holidays which included finishing more magazine pieces and finishing my initial design feedback. This means that over the next 5 weeks I will have more to do and I will need to make an effective plan and more deadlines to complete. I plan to complete 3 pieces of magazines by next week and all my feedback and the first part of my evaluation. I will try and spread it over the week so I do not overload myself with work and take more time on each piece so it is not rushed, which would affect the quality of my magazine. However during the holidays I went to three events where most of my target audience would be, they were all dubstep and drum and base raves and they were under 25. at these events I was able to get some images that I could potentially use for my magazine, there was also a professional photographer there for the event whom I knew and the images of me and my models were also good images, so I wrote an email to him asking if I was able to use the images for my magazine. I also contacted the director of the event at high frequency who I also had a friendly relationship with asking for confirmation to use the images, which were accepted.

17. 15 of December
I have just finished filming and recording the feedback I have gained for my initial designs and need to put them together onto one digital post which I have not decided on yet. Over the Christmas holidays I plan to complete more pieces of my magazine and get it to a professional looking standard so when I come back in the New Year I will be able to just improve it and get the last feedback. Also this will give me more time to write my evaluation.

16. 5th of December
Just conducted another photo shoot with my model Charlie Slade. He had the typical look for my magazine. However we were not able to arrange a date for a photo shoot in the studio or outside of school time so we had to do it during lesson. This was complicated as we did not have any studio equipment and only had a camera to work with. So we found a brick wall and tried to take some images but it was too windy and cold to work outside, so we went inside. The images are not great but I feel if I edit them efficiently they will be of a good enough quality to be used in my magazine.

15.29th of November
I now have a decent idea of how I want my magazine pieces to look like; this is from the feedback I have received from my target audience and what will appeal to them. Also I have completed another section of my mise-en-scene for my  new two images I took of my model Niki on prezi which is labelled 'mise en scene' on my blog. Over this week I am going to complete my feedback for my initial drafts and most probably put them on prezi as I have taken some video blogs of people commenting on my drafts.

14. 28th of November
I am now at the stage of designing my final cover, but I am having some problems, I feel like I am not happy with the layout with my front cover, I created a example of my final front cover, however I don’t like it and I am feeling I am missing some elements. I am going to get some more feedback and think about redesigning my magazine cover. Also I think I need to improve my Photoshop skills because I am finding that my images are not edited as well as I want them to be.

13.16th of November
I have finally made the final decisions for my magazine. I will be using the more white 'clean' and stylised colour scheme and design this is because I felt it captured my target audience’s attention more and would appeal. Also the stylised design would be better for me as it will be clearer on how I should edit my pictures. I decided that my front cover I will have the limited editions idea where there will be two front covers one male one female for the target audience to choose and I will create a total of three double page spreads one male one female and one with both. The content page will have lots of different images and will be like a collage. I came to these decisions by looking at other music magazines and some inspiration from Mr. Fisher.

12.10th of November
Today I have just completed my drafts of my magazine and I now feel uneasy about it. I have created two completely different styles for my magazine and both appeal equally to my target audience. One has a very dark and underground feel and the other is very simple and stylized. I will now either have to complete a questionnaire of which one appeals more or try to combine them together.

11.9th of November
I have now finished all my analysis elements things to do before creating my magazine. However now I have to do all my drafts. This is a bit of a problem for me because I still don’t know what sort of magazine I want to do in terms of the styling, I know I want to do a minimalistic but stylized magazine but I don’t have any ideas on what to do. I might have to do some more research and have a look at good colour themes. Hopefully I will be able to finish it by the 15th.

10.7th of November
This week Mr. Fisher has given us all the tasks we have to complete by 15th of November, there are allot of drafts, analysis and photo shoot elements to be done. I feel like I have a lot to do and not sure if I will be able to complete everything within the given time. So I made a working plan of dates where I have to do certain tasks also I gave myself contingency times to ensure I don’t fall behind. Hopefully this will help me with my planning and make me more efficient in my work.

9.29th of October
I thought this half term was really beneficial for me to help strengthen the different targets and looks I will be using for my magazine, I went to a few different raves and met some people and spoke to them about the festivals they go to so now I have a good understanding of their lifestyles and the similarities and differences between the social group. Also I travelled to Stratford to take some pictures for my magazine, I used my friend Igor Stepanov who is a select model and he is classed in my social group so I was able to ask him about the different styles and events he goes to. My other photo shoot also went really well, I used myself as a model and my friend Cameron Gillmartin, We was able to portray the different images in my head and we was quite successful.

8.17th of October
Today I am researching all the sort of styles to suit my target audience, I am googling images and looking at different artists in the dubstep genre to give me a good idea of the demands and style of dubstep/drum and base music.

7.10th of October
Now we have to start thinking for the proposal and I now want to change my ideas in my head, now I want to try and collaborate dubstep/underground grime with R&B/grime. I have ideas but not sure if they will work on paper so I may do some moodboard and tester designs using images of the internet to try and construct a magazine that will work. If not I will stick to the R&B mainstream magazine idea.

6.9th of October
Today I have finished my research on music magazines from codes and conventions to institutional information. I found it very interesting but again I have to stress how hard I had to surf the internet to find reliable and good resources for my research. I feel I have a good over view of music magazines! :)

5.6th of October
Today I had a chat with Mr. Fisher about how I was going to construct my music magazine, I had difficulty deciding on what sort of magazine I was going to do but I had lots of ideas about the different shots. Most of my shots I want to take are high editorial and high on imagery. So I decided to just take the pictures and I will decided on the formats afterwards. I want to use a range of different models and will now have to see their availabilities; I have already booked a day I am going to take the photos on the 20th of October.

4.3rd of October
I have just come to terms of using prezi to enhance my presentational skills for this blog. We have to now create a research project for the Music Magazines and find out about its history, codes and conventions, institutional information, audience and representations. I am just starting the codes and conventions research and I am finding it quite hard to find any relevant or reliable resources for information. This makes me a bit worried about the other parts of the research.

During the past few lessons we were doing analysis' of magazine; Covers, Contents and Double Page Spreads. We were told the different things we had to look out for in each category and had to analyse them. I found it really useful in strengthening my knowledge on magazines. I was able to identify different parts of magazines and find the connotations and themes of each magazine. I analysed R & B magazines finding they were more simplistic and less busy. Also I had found some other magazines were also simplistic to create a more professional format. Indie magazines however were busier and had more colours and themes. Lastly I did a high editorial magazine and they had more of a harmonising theme and layout to promote fashion and mainstream lifestyles. From the different analysis I found it useful and I came to a conclusion to either do a R & B magazine or a high editorial magazine as it was more my style and was able to relate to it more.

2.13th-17th of September
I created my preliminary task of creating a school magazine. We had to include the codes and conventions of magazine and create them Photoshop. I found the research and planning to be different to what I had completed for coursework in GCSE as I had previously did perfume adverts, so I found I had to do a bit of research and extra planning to ensure I had the correct elements of the magazine. However I found that the task was not as hard I had first presumed. On creating the magazine I was able to do it without any problems as I feel I have adequate skills on Photoshop to complete the task. Overall I was glad that we had a preliminary project as it familiarised me with Photoshop skills and learn the basics of magazines.

I have just created my blog to showcase my work for my Media AS!
